Jhajjar, February 1

In order to strengthen the city's sewerage and drainage system, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pradeep Dahiya has directed the officials concerned to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) so that it can be submitted to the state government before February 10 for approval.

He issued these directions recently while holding a detailed discussion with the officers of the Public Health and Engineering Department regarding the issues of overflowing sewage and waterlogging on roads even after mild rains due to the poor drainage system.

Sources said the issue was recently flagged by locals before the DC, who then took cognisance of it. He not only called a meeting of officials to find a permanent solution to the problem but also directed them to prepare an estimate for the project while emphasising the urgency of the matter.

"The project needs to begin by March, following government approval; hence, officials are required to prepare an estimate and the DPR to be submitted to the headquarters by February 10," he said. He stressed that the government’s priority was to ensure that citizens had access to better facilities, and it is crucial to complete infrastructure development projects on schedule.

Sources said the officials concerned outlined plans to remove waterlogging in the city by installing pump houses at strategic locations, including Rahniya Colony, Shahidi Park, Maturam Park, and near the college on Delhi Road. These measures will be supported by a pipeline system to efficiently drain water.

At the meeting, the DC also highlighted the need for a sports stadium and an auditorium to promote the all-round development of art, culture, and youth in the city, directing the Municipal Council to prioritise these projects as well.

Meanwhile, the DC said the deadline for farmers to register their crop damage reports on the e-kshatipurti portal had been extended until February 3. He urged officials to ensure that all farmers whose crops were affected by heavy rains and waterlogging registered for claims in a timely manner. He emphasised that the government's initiative aimed at providing swift financial assistance to those in need.

Dahiya instructed Agriculture Department officials to promptly verify the loss reports submitted so compensation payments could be processed and transferred to farmers' bank accounts as soon as possible.
