Deputy Speaker Dr Krishna Middha flagged off the new buses and even joined a ride on the inaugural journey.
Until now, Jind Roadways had a fleet of about 170 ordinary buses but not a single AC bus. Local passengers had long demanded AC coaches, particularly for longer routes during the sweltering summer months. Although ordinary bus services already operate from Jind to destinations like Chandigarh, Delhi, Gurugram, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Dehradun, Paonta Sahib, Salasar Balaji, Amritsar and Ludhiana, the demand for more comfortable travel persisted. Responding to this, the depot management sought approval from the HR headquarters, leading to the allotment of five AC buses on August 15.
The authorities have also announced revised fares. While an ordinary bus ticket from Jind to Gurugram costs Rs 160, an AC seat will now cost Rs 250. Similarly, the Jind-Chandigarh fare rises from Rs 250 in an ordinary bus to Rs 340 in an AC coach. The fare for Jind-Kaithal in the AC service will be Rs 105.
