The Jind police spokesperson said during a cordon operation in the presence of the Uttarakhand Police, the accused reportedly shot himself with his own weapon. The spokesperson said Kapoor had opened fire on the Jind police team, injuring Sub-Inspector Surender.

Jind CIA Staff in-charge, Sub-Inspector Manish Kumar said Kapoor's location was traced to Dehradun. A joint team of Haryana, Haridwar, and Dehradun cops raided his hideout, where he was found hiding in a relative’s house. The door of the room was locked from inside, the spokesperson said, adding when the police, with the help of relatives, broke open the door, the accused panicked on seeing the police and shot himself.

Jind Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Singh said the Uttarakhand Police were carrying out the proceedings as per rules.
