Kaithal DC, SP exhort villagers to maintain Atela’s drug-free status

The district administration on Friday organised a night-stay programme at Atela village, where Deputy Commissioner (DC) Preeti and Superintendent of Police (SP) Upasana, along with other officials, interacted with villagers, listened to their grievances, and instructed officials to resolve them.

The DC and the SP exhorted people to maintain the village’s drug-free status.

Addressing the gathering, Preeti said the Haryana Government’s concept of good governance was being implemented at the grassroots level through night-stay programmes, which were organised every month by the district administration.

She said the initiative was not merely an administrative formality, but a firm commitment by the government to reach out to people, understand their issues, and address them effectively.

The DC assured the public that all grievances raised during the visit would be addressed promptly. She urged the youth to come forward to eradicate social evils from society. Discussions on such issues, she suggested, should be held in village meetings to ensure their elimination.

Upasana said both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini had launched campaigns for a drug-free India.

Continuing this mission, the Police Department had been spreading awareness about drug de-addiction across villages. She said Atela has already been declared a drug-free village, and it was the collective responsibility of residents to maintain the status. She encouraged villagers to motivate neighbouring villages to follow the same path.

Upasana emphasised adherence to traffic rules, protection against cyber fraud, and the importance of living a drug-free life. She urged the public to remain vigilant against crimes and to immediately report any incidents of cyber fraud by calling the 1930 mobile phone number, and those related to drugs at 9053052104.

During the programme, villagers raised various issues such as registration under the Lado Lakshmi Yojana, construction of Kashyap Chaupal, repair of the road in front of the government school, problems related to drinking water and drainage, old-age pension, allotment of 100-square-yard plots under the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana, corrections in Parivar Pehchan Patra, relocation of a transformer near the school, and others.

On the occasion, students who had brought pride to the village were honoured by the DC and the SP.

Tamanna and Arushi, who got first and second positions, respectively, at the district-level science exhibition; Raman, a school topper in Class VIII; and Parmveer, who has joined Buniyaad, were honoured.

The Siwan Sarpanch Association and Atela sarpanch Parveen welcomed the guests.
