Kaithal police crackdown on transformer and vehicle theft gang, solve 40 cases

In a significant breakthrough, the Kaithal police have arrested six individuals, including a scrap dealer, for their alleged involvement in transformer and vehicle theft cases. This crackdown has led to the solving of 40 cases, comprising 38 transformer theft cases and two bike theft cases from Panipat and Pehowa.

According to DSP Sushil Prakash, the police recovered several items, including two vehicles used in the crimes, two stolen motorcycles, tools used for theft, Rs 5,000 in cash, and 87.8 kg of stolen copper wire from transformers.

The arrests were made following a complaint filed by UHBVN Pundri SDO Ravindra Kumar regarding the theft of copper wire from a transformer in the Kakaut village on November 8, 2024. The investigation was handed over to the anti-vehicle theft staff, who worked swiftly to apprehend the accused.

The accused individuals, identified as Joginder Singh, Aman, Rohit alias Mithun, Rahul, Hritik, and Mohammad Sabir, were found to be involved in stealing copper wires and other equipment from transformers. They would conduct recce during the daytime using motorcycles and carry out the thefts at night. The stolen goods were then sold to scrap dealers.

All six accused are currently on police remand, and further investigations are underway.
