Kaithal: Lashu Yadav of OSDAV School, Kaithal, brought laurels to the school by bagging gold medal in international-level boxing championship. She was acclaimed for winning gold medal in 66-kg golden girl championship held at Sweden from January 31 to Feb 2. She defeated Denmark’s boxer with 5-0 margin. Her arrival was applauded by the school with a grand welcome. She also won bronze medal in Khelo India Championship held earlier at Guwahati. The Class XI student credited her success to her parents, principal and sports teachers. To win medal in Asian Games is Lashu’s next objective. Principal-cum-Regional Officer Suman Nijhawan commended Lashu’s effort. She said Lashu had glorified the school and she was a source of motivation for other students.

school holds academic carnival

Gurugram: Blue Bells Public School, Sector 10, Gurugram, organised an academic carnival on ‘Learning Unbound-Chapter 2019-20’ on the school premises. The focus of the event was on embracing diversity. The carnival also highlighted the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) which is recognised and has been felicitated for. The event witnessed participation of students from Class III to Class V who presented STEAM-based activities and models, working models, charts and posters that demonstrated the integration of subjects around the theme of environment and saving the planet. Some notable models developed by the students included a water-treatment tower, rainwater harvesting and energy in desert. Soumya Gulati, Deputy Director, Academic Development and Innovations, Blue Bells Group of Schools, said, “The idea behind learning unbound is to encourage students to appreciate and build their knowledge around cultural diversity.”

Workshop on social media monitoring

Kurukshetra: The Kurukshetra University Skill Development Centre organised a one-day workshop in joint collaboration with Google News Initiative India and data lead at faculty lounge. Speaking on this occasion, Google trainer Siddharth Vardhrajan said aware citizens were required to fight against fake news. He said the scale of misinformation and fake news was big due to social media’s penetration in India. Conducting lecture on social media monitoring and geo location, Vardhrajan continued displaying doctored images and videos and asked students whether they could guess if they were genuine or fake. “If something seems too good to be true, it probably is not,” he said. Dr Bindu Sharma, Director of the Institute of Mass Communication and Media Technology, welcomed the Google trainer.

Aptitude development workshop

Hisar: A two-week aptitude development workshop was commenced for students of pre-final year of non-engineering streams by the Training and Placement Cell, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar. Prof Karam Pal Narwal, Director, Haryana School of Business, inaugurated the workshop as chief guest. Prof Alka Sharma, Department of Food Technology, was present as the guest of honour. Pratap Singh, Director, Training and Placement Cell, presided over the inaugural function. Prof Karmapal Narwal said students should increase their employability skills by making maximum use of this workshop. “We can become employable by improving life skills, technical skills and soft skills. We can develop our communication skills by working on intent, content and confidence,” he said.

Seminar on Shashi Deshpande’s novel

Kaithal: A seminar on Shashi Deshpande’s “That Long Silence” was organised by MA English final year students at RKSD PG College under Dr Geeta Goyal’s mentorship. Arti and Deepak were student coordinators, while Renuka spopke on the title of the novel, Manish and Kunal shared their readings about Shashi Deshpande as a feminist author and the protagonist of the novel, respectively. Anchal recited her self-composed poem. Dr Rajbir Parashar, Dr Seema Gupta, Dr Vikas Bhardwaj, Dr Manjula Goel, Dr Suruchi Sharma, Dr SP Verma and Prof Richa Langyan appreciated the effort of the students.
