Sindhu had joined the Army nine years ago and was serving with the Rashtriya Rifles. He was posted in Srinagar four years ago.
As per officials, the encounter also resulted in the killing of two Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists. The sacrifice of Lance Naik Sindhu has left the entire district mourning the loss of its brave son.
The mortal remains of the martyr will be brought to his native village on Wednesday morning. His last rites will be performed with full military honours at his native village.
The locals said that Sindhu would always be remembered with pride.
On Monday, he was on patrol duty with fellow soldiers in the Valley when terrorists ambushed their team. A family member said that his family had recently been discussing his marriage. He is survived by his parents and a younger brother, who currently lives in the US. His father is a farmer and mother a homemaker.
