“I had the honour of being unanimously elected as the president of the council. I am thankful to the members of the Council and the president who proposed my name,” Gupta said after her election. She assured fellow mayors that she would strive to meet their expectations. “Mayors across 21 states came here to share their achievements and vision. Each state has its own body. I will do my best to take all mayors together,” she added.

The meeting also emphasised the need to strengthen the institution of mayors by giving them more powers, ensuring timely conduct of municipal elections and creating a robust urban governance framework. Members further proposed the creation of a uniform municipal cadre and a “One Nation–One Municipal Act” for consistency across states.

Karnal MLA Jagmohan Anand congratulated Gupta, calling it “a proud moment for Karnal as our Mayor has been elected president of the All India Mayors Council.” Local councillors, participating mayors, and BJP workers also extended their wishes.
