The family of 27-year-old Manish from Kunjpura village in Karnal district is reeling in shock after he died under mysterious circumstances in the US. Manish had travelled to the US around 18 months ago to improve his family’s financial situation. His family had taken a loan of Rs 38 lakh to fund his trip.

According to his family, Manish died of a heart attack. However, they received no prior indication of any health issues, as he had spoken to them just a day before his death.

“Manish seemed perfectly fine when he spoke to us yesterday. He didn’t mention any health problems. Everything seemed normal, but today we received the devastating news of his death,” a family member said.

Manish had travelled to the US through irregular channels (‘donkey routes’). His family had pinned their hopes on him to alleviate their financial struggles, but now they are burdened with both grief and the weight of an unpaid loan.

The family has appealed to the Union Government to assist them in bringing Manish’s body back to India for his final rites.

“We are devastated. Our only request to the government is to help us repatriate his body so we can perform his last rites in our homeland,” a grieving family member said.
