Representatives of various Khap panchayats, gram panchayats, students and trade organisations on Sunday gathered at Mansarover Park here and demanded a fair investigation into the suicide of senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar. Later, they also submitted a memorandum to the district authorities in this regard.

“A suicide by senior IPS officer is an extremely unfortunate and tragic incident. Entire society and every citizen of the state is deeply shocked by it. We request that a fair and high-level inquiry be conducted into the matter so that those responsible for the incident are punished. It should be ensured that no innocent persons is made scapegoat,” said Jai Singh Ahlawat, president, Ahlawat Khap-27, Dighal.

Pradeep Deswal, a prominent student leader, said it had come to their knowledge that action was taken against former Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarniya without any investigation. He was not given an opportunity to present his side, he claimed.

“It is unfair to target any officer based on one-sided opinion and without any impartial investigation. Holding someone responsible for the incident without a fair probe and taking action is completely wrong. It is against principles of justice to take action without a thorough and unbiased inquiry. It is requested that only after a detailed and transparent investigation should any decision be taken.” “Bijarniya has worked hard to improve law and order in Rohtak. If any action is taken against him without a fair investigation, it will be deeply unjust,” Deswal pointed out.

He further maintained that such steps would also create fear and mistrust among honest officers and discourage them from working freely and sincerely. “It seems that political pressure is being applied in this case, which is highly concerning. Therefore, if a case has been registered against any officer or individual in this matter, then it should also be fairly investigated. If anyone is found guilty, then he should be punished, but if someone is not guilty, he should be cleared of blame,” Deswal said.
