Kherki Daula toll plaza to go soon, says Gurugram MP

Raising hopes of lakhs of Gurugram residents, the Kherki Daula toll plaza is likely to be removed in the next three months. It will be replaced with a new satellite-based toll collection system. The announcement was made by Central Minister and Gurugram MP Rao Inderjit Singh after his meeting with Union minister for Road Transport and highways Nitin Gadkari.

Gadkari, who met Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit Singh to discuss various infrastructure projects in the city and Rewari, said under the new system of toll collection,money will be deducted directly from one’s bank accounts based on the distance they have travelled. Once implemented it would pave the way for removal of Kherki Daula toll plaza. The toll Plaza has been a major issue of concern and residents have been protesting against it since over a decade now. It has been cited as a key reason behind poor ai rquality and traffic congestion in Manesar and other parts of New Gurugram.

“A long-awaited step, it will revolutionise mobility in Gurugram. We will be upgrading road infrastructure further,” said Inderjeet Rao.

He also also pressed for the construction of an elevated road to decongest the stretch from Hero Honda Chowk to Umang Bharadwaj Chowk, but NHAI officials flagged technical hurdles for the project owing to the Metro corridor along the route.

NHAI was planning to widen the stretch, but after the MP proposed an elevated road and a change in design, the highway authority put the project on hold.

With the MP now pushing for the revival of the project, NHAI said the road would be elevated where necessary and widened to have six lanes elsewhere. Haryana and NHAI officials will meet soon to draw up the blueprint.
