“Shubham, who is deaf from birth, has made the district, state and country proud by winning the medal at the world championship,” says Vikram Vashist, his elder brother. He said while Shubham can neither speak, nor hear and understand the language through gestures and lip syncing, he has grown into an international player due to his hard work, dedication and his love for the sport. He said his brother had started regular practice and training at the age of 17 at a private coaching centre in Ballabgarh.

While his journey in the field began with the participation in the national-level games in 2018, his motivation reached a new level after he got a chance to represent the country in the 24th Deaflympics (Deaf Olympics) held in Brazil in 2022. He said Shubham proved his mettle and brought laurels by winning a bronze in individual event and a silver in team event in the Second World Deaf Shooting Championship. Abhinav Deshwal and Chetan Hanmat Sakpal have been his partners in the 10m air pistol team event.
