Both colleges had submitted proposals to start with 150 MBBS seats. However, after assessment by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB), the NMC has approved an intake of 100 seats for each college. The decision was taken based on existing infrastructure and faculty, which the MARB found inadequate for the proposed seats, said sources.
Health Minister Arti Singh Rao recently wrote to Union Health Minister JP Nadda and CM Nayab Singh, requesting for their intervention in getting the Letter of Permission for admissions.
In its communication sent on Tuesday, the NMC made it clear that the colleges must adhere to all norms, including infrastructure, faculty deployment, and clinical facilities. They would be held accountable for maintaining the standards throughout the academic year, said the sources.
“The colleges have also been directed to contribute 15% of MBBS seats and 50% of postgraduate seats under the All India Quota. Both institutions are required to develop and maintain a comprehensive website, showcasing the infrastructure, faculty, student intake, hospital facilities, and other details, in accordance with NMC guidelines,” said the sources.
Digital systems such as biometric attendance and CCTV surveillance must also be installed. The institutions were expected to rectify any deficiencies before the next scheduled inspection, failing which the NMC reserved the right to revoke the permission.
Confirming the development, Dr Geeta Gathwala, Director of the Bhiwani medical college, said it would now be included in the list of institutions where students could seek admission during the second round of counselling, expected to be scheduled soon.
Dr Pawan Goel, Director of Koriawas college, said, “We had been eagerly waiting for the approval. We are committed to building a high-quality medical education and healthcare ecosystem.”
