Kurukshetra University launches community service initiatives

In a step towards promoting environmental responsibility and civic engagement, Kurukshetra University on Wednesday launched a Cleanliness and Community Service Drive as part of the Community Sewa Pakhwada celebrations on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.

The campaign was inaugurated by KU Vice-Chancellor Prof Som Nath Sachdeva on the university campus.

Addressing students, faculty and staff, Prof Sachdeva highlighted the crucial role of cleanliness in supporting environmental balance. “Cleanliness drives are not only essential for maintaining a hygienic campus, but these also raise awareness among students and teachers that they should care for the environment and serve society,” he added.

Sachdeva also encouraged the students to adopt sustainable practices by reducing plastic usage and promoting alternatives like cloth and jute bags.

Deputy Director Public Relations Dr Jimmy Sharma said a plantation drive was held on Wednesday and the Sewa Pakhwada, running from September17 to October 2 as per the Higher Education Haryana’s directives, would feature seminars on Prime Minister Modi’s philosophy, campus cleanliness drives, plastic reduction initiatives, and awareness programmes including bicycle rallies and anti-drug campaigns.

KU Registrar Dr Virender Pal, Dean, Students’ Welfare Dr AR Chaudhri, Prof Maha Singh Poonia, and volunteers from NSS, NCC, and Youth Red Cross actively participated in the events.
