Kurukshetra admn launches mega cleanliness campaign

The Kurukshetra district administration on Wednesday launched a mega cleanliness campaign from Pipli Gita Dwar to improve the sanitation conditions ahead of the state-level International Yoga Day celebrations.

During the mega cleanliness campaign, Deputy Commissioner Neha Singh collected polythene from the roadside around Pipli Gita Dwar and participated in the cleanliness drive.

During the drive, the Deputy Commissioner visited the shops of fruit vendors, grocery stores and dhaba owners and warned them about keeping polythene and eight challans to the tune of Rs 5,500 were also issued to the people for littering.

Speaking to mediapersons, Neha Singh said a state-level event on International Yoga Day would be organised on June 21, and before this, a yoga marathon would also be held on June 15. Apart from Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, other dignitaries will participate in the programme and 1 lakh people will perform yoga at Brahma Sarovar. A mega sanitation drive has been started to make Kurukshetra clean.

She appealed to the citizens not to throw garbage on the roads, and if any person was found doing so, then strict action would also be taken against him. She said the traffic light at Pipli Dwar has also been started and soon the beautification work would also be carried out.

District Municipal Commissioner Satinder Siwach said the officers were assigned duties for the sanitation drive by the municipal council and all efforts were being made to clean the city.

During the sanitation drive, the Deputy Commissioner issued directions to impose a fine of Rs 1,000 per day, if garbage was found near the shops in future. Neha Singh inspected the shops to check the use of polythene and plastic. A large amount of polythene was found with the shopkeepers. As per the order of the Deputy Commissioner, the officials of the Municipal Council confiscated the polythene and also imposed a fine.

Hoardings and other goods kept on the roads were confiscated by the municipal council. The DC further instructed the officials to take care of the saplings planted on the divider in the middle of the road and the painting work should also be done by the Public Works Department.
