Kurukshetra DC orders removal of juice carts, stricter road safety measures on NH-44

Deputy Commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena has directed officials of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to remove all juice-selling carts from NH-44 and warned that drivers stopping at such carts will face action, officials said on Wednesday.

Chairing the monthly District Road Safety meeting, the DC stated that vehicles stopping at juice carts increase the risk of major accidents. NHAI officials were instructed to remove the kiosks immediately.

Earlier, RTA Secretary and SDM Thanesar Shashwat Sangwan and RTA Inspector Joginder Singh presented agenda items from the previous meeting and proposed new measures.

The DC emphasised that the administration and traffic police must remain vigilant during the foggy season. Officers from all departments will ensure white road markings and reflector tapes are properly installed. Road safety works around Pipli Chowk will be funded through CSR contributions, and the area will also be beautified.

Action will also be taken against truck drivers parking in front of dhabas on national and state highways. Meena ordered strict measures against those damaging safety grills near the Shahabad bus stand, which were repeatedly broken to cross the road.

He further warned that bus drivers from Haryana and other states who stop on NH-44 at Shahabad bus stand to pick up or drop passengers will be prosecuted under the law.

To enforce traffic rules, 135 CCTV cameras have been installed in the city, which will monitor violations at intersections, and fines will be issued through an online system. Police and PWD officials will jointly inspect the Jalebi Bridge to assess the feasibility of additional CCTV cameras.

The DC also instructed notices for shopkeepers encroaching on roads with signboards or goods at locations including Railway Road, Keshav Park, and Mohan Nagar Chowk. SP Nitish Agarwal noted that while illegal cuts on NH-44 had been closed, 7–8 dhaba owners continue to flout rules. FIRs will be filed against those creating new illegal cuts. SDM Anubhav Mehta, SDM Dr Chinar, and other officials attended the meeting.
