Kurukshetra University gets NAAC ‘A++’ grade

Kurukshetra University (KU) has secured A grade, the highest, in the fourth cycle of its assessment conducted by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). With the A grade, the KU has become the first government university in Haryana to get the highest grade.

The university has excelled in NAAC-specified criteria such as curricular aspects (3.63); teaching, learning and evaluation (3.46); research, innovations and extension (3.39); infrastructure and learning resources (3.76); student support and progression (3.61); governance leadership and management (3.36); institutional values and best practices (4).

This marks the university’s first-ever attainment of the highest grade, with a cumulative score of 3.56 out of 4. This achievement places it among a select group of Indian universities assessed in the fourth cycle.

Speaking to mediapersons at the KU Senate Hall, Vice-Chancellor Prof Som Nath Sachdeva said the Kurukshetra University was the first in the public sector in Haryana to achieve the outstanding grade. It has excelled in NAAC-specified criteria such as curricular aspects (3.63); teaching, learning and evaluation (3.46); research, innovations and extension (3.39); infrastructure and learning resources (3.76); student support and progression (3.61); governance leadership and management (3.36); institutional values and best practices (4).”

The university has achieved academic excellence through various initiatives in the past five years. The university is credited with having launched initiatives such as complete digitisation of the administration and examination system, the introduction of new undergraduate and postgraduate courses, a large number of publications in Scopus-indexed journals from the faculty, a Rs 100-crore research funding under RUSA (Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan), two national research facilities, establishment of five advanced research centres and seven training centres. Many consultancy projects, a high citation index, good number of patents, highest support to students from marginalised communities, biodiversity conservation and alumni contribution to developmental activities helped in achieving the grade.

“With this award, the university will march ahead with further excellence in academics and achieve global competency. The university further aims at internationalisation, establishment of a dedicated centre for fostering community engagement as per UGC norms, introduction of need-based professional courses, creation of feasible and useful collaboration with global institutions and centres of excellence and promotion of trans-disciplinary studies and research, said Prof Som Nath.

The VC thanked Governor-Chancellor Bandaru Dattatreya and Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar for their support in attaining the grade.

KU Registrar Prof Sanjeev Sharma, Dean of Academic Affairs Prof Anil Vashisth, Dean, Students Welfare, Prof AR Chaudhri, Director, Public Relations, Prof Brajesh Sawhney were among those present on the occasion.
