Lawyers’ strike leaves litigants high and dry

Work at the Rohtak courts has been suspended for the past 11 days after the District Bar Association (DBA) took a decision to this effect on September 2.

The litigants whose cases had to come up for hearing during these days are suffering due to the lawyers’ strike. The association had decided to keep the work suspended following the registration of an FIR against a local advocate.

“A local lawyer, Sumit Singh, has been falsely implicated in the case. We met the local SP over the issue, but to no avail. Hence, the suspension of work is still on and will continue till the matter is resolved,” said Deepak Hooda, general secretary, DBA, Rohtak.

The DBA general secretary said he had also sent a representation to the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana in this regard. After receiving the said representation, the Chairman of the Punjab and Haryana Bar Council, Vijender Singh Ahlawat, wrote to the state DGP, urging him to get a thorough and fair investigation conducted into the case.

“The case registered against Advocate Sumit Singh, vide FIR No. 219 at Arya Nagar police station dated August 30, 2024, is stated to be false. It is expected that the matter would be probed by some honest, sincere and upright gazetted officer,” said the chairman.
