Legal services authority conducts workshop on Juvenile Justice Act

A workshop was recently organised by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Kaithal, under the campaign “Nayi Disha Nayi Udaan” in connection with the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. The workshop focused on the provisions of the special Act and its corresponding Rules.

Kanwal Kumar, Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM)-cum-Secretary, DLSA, said the objective of the workshop was to provide key knowledge of the special law to all officials and stakeholders concerned, while also raising awareness about the protection of child rights.

Arvind Khurania, panel advocate of DLSA, briefed the officials and employees on the legal provisions of the special Acts and Rules, with the aim of enabling all stakeholders to work more effectively in the welfare of children and the protection of their legal rights.

Meanwhile, the Special Juvenile Police Unit (SJPU) was sensitised on child-friendly procedures related to the apprehension and production of a Child in Conflict with Law (CCL) before the Juvenile Justice Board. Guidance was also given on the process of age verification of the child and the importance of coordination with the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) and DLSA.

The programme saw participation from DSP Kaithal Gurvinder Singh, officials of the Special Juvenile Police Unit (SJPU), members of the Child Welfare Committee, officials from the DCPU and the coordinator of MDM of India (NGO).
