Woman dies in mishap

Panipat: A 60-year-old woman was killed in an accident near Jhattipur on the NH-44 on Friday. The deceased was identified as Samjho Devi of Lakhu Buana village in Israna. Vijaypal, son of the deceased, said he and his mother were going to bring medicine from Panipat on Friday morning. He said as his mother was crossing the highway, a speeding car coming from the Delhi side hit her. He said she was taken to the general hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead. The police registered a case and handed over the body to the victim’s kin after postmortem. TNS

2 jackals found dead

Faridabad: The police have registered a case against five persons in connection with the death of two jackals whose carcasses were recovered from the Surajkund area on Thursday night. One of the accused was identified as Netrapal of Khori village in the district. No arrest had been made so far. The accused allegedly hunted the jackals, which were a protected species. An auto-rickshaw was parked at the spot. TNS

3 men held for murder

Sonepat: A CIA-2 team led by Sub-Inspector Yoginder Singh arrested three persons for allegedly murdering Matindu village resident Deepak here on December 13 last year. A murder case was registered at Kharkhoda police station on December 14 last year. The accused, Ajai of Chaulka village, Sandeep of Khanda village and Bindu, alias Binder, of Bhainswal Kalan village of the district, were on Friday produced in a local court and sent to eight-day police custody. Ban on movement of cows

Sonepat: Exercising his powers under Section 144 of the CrPC, District Magistrate Anshaj Singh has banned movement of cows on national highways in the district, including Kundli-Manesar-Palwal and Kundli-Ghaziabad-Palwal expressways. OC

Equestrian meet for cops

Gurugram: The state will host the 38th All-India Police Equestrian Competition-2020 at Police Complex, Bhondsi, from February 5 to 14. Teams of Haryana Police, Bihar, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Chandigarh Police, BSF, Assam Rifle, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Armed Security Force and Vallabh Bhai Patel National Police Academy will participate. Rs 1.78-cr for 178 families of accident victims in Karnal

Chandigarh: The state government has paid ex-gratia of Rs 1.78 crore to 178 families under the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Accident Assistance Scheme in Karnal district. Under the scheme, the family of a person between 18 and 70 years of age dying in a road accident gets Rs 1 lakh. Earlier, the scheme was called Rajiv Gandhi Parivar Bima Yojana and benefit was given only if the deceased was between 18 and 60 years of age, was head of the family and fell in the BPL category. However, now there are no conditions for payment of ex gratia. TNS

Staff to get salary a day in advance for 3 months

Chandigarh: The state has decided to advance the payment of salaries and pension for February, July and October this year. According to an order issued by the Finance Department, the salaries and pension will be disbursed on February 28, July 30 and October 30. This has been done on the account of gazetted holidays falling on February 29 and March 1, July 31, October 31 and November 1. TNS

SPO killed in accident

Panipat: A 49-year-old special police officer (SPO) was killed in an accident on the Gohana road flyover on Thursday night. The deceased was identified as Ramniwas of Azad Nagar. Navin, son of the deceased, said his father was on way to duty when a car hit his motorcycle around 10.30 pm. He said his father fell on the road and died on the spot. The driver fled the spot, leaving his vehicle behind. The police registered a case. TNS
