Sumitra Kadian, Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM)-cum-Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), organised a Lok Adalat at the district jail in Jagadhri on Wednesday.

She said that seven cases were presented before the Lok Adalat, of which six were settled. She added that only those matters found eligible under the prescribed guidelines are taken up for settlement in Lok Adalats.

The CJM also inspected the facilities available to inmates in the jail. She emphasised that no detainee or prisoner should remain without legal representation. She said that if an individual is unable to afford private counsel the DLSA provides a panel lawyer or a legal aid defence advocate.
