The suspect has been identified as Bilal of Tidoli village falling under Nakud police station of Saharanpur district (Uttar Pradesh).

The accused was produced in a court on Sunday and the court sent him to four days’ police custody.

Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal said the dead body of a young woman was recovered from Bahadurpur village on December 7.

He said the condition of the body was extremely horrific as the woman’s head was severed from her body. “It was clear from the initial investigation this was a heinous, serious and extremely sensitive case of murder,” said SP Kamaldeep Goyal.

He said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by DSP Rajat Gulia was immediately formed.

“The biggest challenge facing the police was establishing the identity of the deceased,” the SP said.

He said police stations in all districts of the state, as well as the border districts of neighboring states — Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh — were contacted to gather any information about the young woman’s disappearance.

“The SIT worked tirelessly day and night and solved this blind murder case within six days of the discovery of the body. The accused was arrested and identified as Bilal of Saharanpur district,” said the SP.

He said during interrogation the accused told that the deceased was also a resident of a village of Saharanpur district and both were living in a live-in relationship in Saharanpur for the last two years.

He said accused Bilal’s marriage was fixed and the girl was pressuring him to marry her.

He further said he was afraid the girl would tell the truth to his family, due to which his marriage could break.

“Due to this fear he planned the murder. On the night of December 6 at around 8 pm, the accused took the girl with him in the car from Saharanpur. He beheaded the girl and removed her clothes,” the SP said.
