Man arrested for ‘pushing’ daughter into canal, case registered
The Kurukshetra police have arrested a man for allegedly pushing his seven-year-old daughter into Bhakra canal in Kurukshetra over a domestic dispute.
As per the information, the girl was pushed into the canal on Saturday and the matter came to light on Monday. The police have arrested Lalit Mehto, a resident of Kheri Markanda village. The family hails from Bihar.
A Kurukshetra police spokesman said on March 2, a woman in her complaint to the police said that her daughter had gone to school on March 1 but her husband took her from school on the pretext of getting her Aadhar card made. But when their daughter didn’t return home, she asked her husband about her whereabout and the accused told her that he had dropped their daughter to a relative’s house in Delhi. The woman further stated that her husband left her at the ISBT bus stand when they went to Delhi to bring the daughter back. She then got a case registered at Thanesar Sadar police station.
The accused was arrested by the police and during questioning he confessed to have pushed the daughter into Bhakra canal on March 1. He was produced before a court which sent him to two-day police remand. Meanwhile, different teams of divers were pressed into service to trace the girl’s body in the canal, however the body was yet to be fished out.
Thanesar Sadar police station SHO Baljeet Singh said, “The accused has confessed that he had pushed his daughter into the canal over a domestic dispute with his wife. Efforts are being made to trace the body.”
