Sudeep Goel, Additional Sessions Judge (exclusive court for heinous crimes against women), Jagadhri, sentenced a man to 10-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a 20-year-old mentally challenged woman.

Public prosecutor Kapil Sharma said the court pronounced the judgment on April 18 and imposed a fine of Rs 60,000 on the convict Bittu of Marchehri village of Kurukshetra district.

In default of payment of fine, the convict would have to undergo further one-year imprisonment.

As per information, a man of Radaur town of Yamunanagar district told the police that his daughter went missing from their house at about 1 pm on January 31, 2023. He said when they checked the footage of CCTV cameras installed in a house of the village, they came to know that a man had taken his daughter on a motorcycle.

The accused, who was arrested, told the police that he took her to a field in a village under Ladwa subdivision and raped her.
