An Additional Sessions Judge (Fast Track Special Court under POCSO Act), Jagadhri, today awarded the death penalty to a man for the sexual abuse and murder of a six-year-old girl.

Special Public Prosecutor Guldev Kumar said a fine of Rs 20,000 had also been imposed on the convict, Rajesh Kumar (24).

As per the order, a compensation of Rs 15 lakh would be given to the family of the deceased by the District Legal Services Authority.

The girl's father had lodged an FIR on September 20, 2024, that his daughter had gone missing while playing outside the house in the evening.

He said a villager had told them that Rajesh Kumar of their village had been seen taking the girl towards the fields. Later, the body was recovered from a sugarcane field.
