Besides, the court has also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000.
Giving details, DSP Birbhan said the body of a young man was recovered on April 8, 2021, from a room in the fields of Kakheri. The deceased was identified as Manish, a resident of the same village. Earlier, it was considered a blind murder, but during investigation, the police arrested the accused, Gaurav, alias Gauri, a resident of Kakheri.
The motive behind the murder started from a dispute in which Manish had caught Gaurav misbehaving with a woman of Manish’s family. Angered, Manish had warned Gaurav to stay away from the village, threatening him with dire consequences if he was seen again. Gaurav moved to stay with his relatives but quietly hatched a conspiracy to kill Manish.
On April 7, 2021, Gaurav learned that Manish would be harvesting wheat with his combine machine in a villager’s fields. Gaurav went to the room where Manish was resting. He attacked Manish repeatedly on the head and face with a wooden tool, killing him on the spot, said the DSP.
During the probe, the police collected substantial evidence and presented the case before the court. Public Prosecutor Balinder argued the case with evidence. The DSP said on Wednesday the court, after considering the facts and evidence, convicted Gaurav and awarded him life imprisonment.
