Man gunned down in Rohtak village, gang rivalry suspected
A 35-year-old man, identified as Anil Kumar, was shot dead by unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants in Ritoli village, under the jurisdiction of the Shivaji Colony police station, on Sunday morning.
The attackers fled the scene immediately after the incident.
The murder is suspected to be linked to an ongoing rivalry between two notorious criminal gangs — one led by Ankit, alias Baba, and the other by Himanshu Bhau.
However, the police have not confirmed any gang-related motive at this stage, stating that investigations were still underway. Anil is believed to have had close ties with gangster Ankit.
The police are currently reviewing footage of CCTV cameras installed near the crime scene in an effort to identify the culprits.
As of the filing of this report, no concrete leads have emerged. According to initial reports, the incident occurred while Anil was travelling on his bike.
Unidentified assailants approached him and fired multiple rounds of fire on him from a close range, killing him on the spot.
Hearing gunshots, villagers rushed to the scene and informed his family.
A team of police officers and forensic experts later arrived to examine the site.
The body was subsequently sent to the PGIMS for a post-mortem examination.
Inspector Rakesh Kumar, SHO of the Shivaji Colony police station, told The Tribune that Anil had criminal charges pending against him in four separate cases.
However, no direct evidence had yet linked his murder to the ongoing gang rivalry. “We are investigating the matter from multiple angles and are in the process of registering a formal case,” he said.
Both Ankit and Himanshu Bhau, who are believed to be long standing rivals, hail from Ritoli village.
