A man has been arrested for allegedly duping people of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of a lottery scheme. In Sirsa, the police registered an FIR against the accused following a complaint by security agent Binder Singh.

According to Binder Singh’s complaint, he received information on August 30 about a lottery draw being held at Kabir Vatika in Sirsa, which had attracted a large crowd. On arriving at the scene, Binder Singh saw thousands of lottery tickets being sold, with prizes such as a Thar vehicle, tractor, Bullet bike, chapati box, and sewing machine advertised as rewards. Many people had purchased lottery coupons for Rs 300 each.

Soon after, the crowd began raising concerns about not winning any prizes. When Binder Singh enquired further, he was told that Raj Kumar, the chief sevak of Sant Kabir Vatika and a resident of Ekta Nagar, had been distributing the tickets for several days, misleading people by promising that every ticket would win a prize.

However, only five people reportedly won a prize and the identity of the first prize winner was not disclosed.

Raj Kumar, along with his associates, allegedly collected Rs 300 from each participant, defrauding them of lakhs of rupees. It was also noted that the Haryana Government has banned lotteries in the state. When the police asked Raj Kumar to produce a licence for selling the lottery tickets, he failed to do so. Subsequently, the police registered a case against him, and he has been arrested.
