Mahendragarh: The police have arrested a man, Birendra, on the charges of carrying out opium farming at Bewal village under the Kanina police station here. A police spokesman said the accused was doing it in the garb of mustard crop farming. Acting on a tip-off, a raid was conducted in his field. The police team found many plants of opium amid the mustard crop. All opium plants were uprooted and a case under the NDPS Act was registered. TNS

ASI goes missing from court

Rohtak: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) with the Haryana Police went missing after a court hearing here on Friday. ASI Sandeep, who is posted at Hansi in Hisar district, had come to Rohtak for a court hearing. In a complaint lodged with the police, the ASI’s father, Nafe Singh, said Sandeep’s mental condition was not sound. “I accompanied him to Rohtak for the hearing. We came out of the juidicial complex after the hearing. But, Sandeep suddenly went missing thereafter,” he said. The police have registered a case.
