A team of Sadar police station, Yamunanagar, has arrested a man with an illegal country-made pistol, two magazines and 20 live cartridges.

The accused has been identified as Laxman Rawat of Shadipur village in Yamunanagar district.

Chamkaur Singh, a police spokesperson of the Yamunanagar police said Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal had issued strict instructions to the district police to crack down on those possessing illegal weapons.

He said acting on the instructions of the SP, the team of Sadar police station, Yamunanagar, arrested the accused and registered a case against him under the Arms Act.

He said the accused was produced before a court in Jagadhri on Friday where he was sent to judicial custody. He said the matter was being investigated by the police thoroughly.

Ajaib Singh, SHO of the Sadar police station said his team received information that a man was roaming near Shadipur village with an illegal weapon, intending to commit a crime.

He said based on this information, a team was formed under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Balwinder Singh. The team went to the spot and arrested the said man.

He said during search of the accused, an illegal country-made pistol, two magazines and 20 live cartridges were recovered from him.
