A man allegedly killed three of his family members and attempted to kill his son before dying by suicide at their house in Yara village of Shahabad in Kurukukshetra district on Sunday.  It is being suspected that Dushyant killed his father Naib Singh by slitting his throat, smothered his mother Amrit Kaur, gave poison to his wife Amanpreet Kaur and tried to strangulate his son Keshav. It is suspected that he later died by suicide by consuming some poisonous substance. The exact cause of deaths, however, will be clear after post-mortem examination that will be conducted on Monday.

Keshav is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. He is said to be out of danger.

The matter came to light on Sunday after Naib's nephew went to their house to meet the family but didn’t get any response from inside the house. He alerted other relatives and later found bodies of Naib and Amrit on the bed of their room. The other three were lying unconscious. They were rushed to a hospital where Dushyant and Amandeep also died.

Initially, it was being suspected that some unidentified people had attacked the family but later a suicide note, apparently written by Dushyant, was recovered from the house in which he had accused some people of harassing him over some monetary dispute. Some issues related to immigration are said to be the cause of the dispute. The police have registered a complaint on the statement of a relative of the family.

Kurukshetra Superintendent of Police Varun Singla said, “A suicide note has been recovered from the house. Prima facie, it appears that the person who wrote the suicide note killed the other persons of the family before dying by suicide. He was under depression over some financial issues and the matter is under investigation. A case has been registered.”
