Chhinder Kaur from Killianwali (Punjab) said her daughter, Harpreet Kaur, was married to Hardeep Singh of Kurangawali. Recently, Hardeep and Harpreet were going through a rough patch in their marriage, prompting Chhinder to stay with them. Despite her efforts to resolve the quarrel, the arguments continued.

On the night of July 21, Chhinder and her daughter were sleeping in the courtyard, while Hardeep and his nephew Gurpyar were asleep at the backyard of the house. Chhinder alleged Hardeep and Gurpyar conspired and attacked her daughter with an axe while she was asleep. Harpreet was critically injured and taken to the CHC at Kalanwali, then referred to Sirsa hospital, where she died while receiving treatment. A murder case was registered against Hardeep and his nephew Gurpyar based on Chhinder’s statement, said the police.
