An FIR in this regard was registered on April 14, 2022, and the accused was arrested.

The 28-year-old victim had reached out to the accused, Palla resident Raj Thakur, after her husband was lodged in the Neemka jail in a murder case.

She often went to the jail to meet her husband, and met Thakur there as he was also lodged in jail.

After Thakur was released, he told the woman that could obtain bail for her husband.

“On September 3, 2021, Raj asked me to come to Ballabhgarh with Rs 20,000 and my Aadhaar card. When I reached there, he took me to a hotel near Old Chowk on the pretext of meeting a lawyer. He took my Aadhaar card and the money. After this, he mixed something in my drink and tried to rape me; but I protested and somehow escaped. My husband later died due to illness. I was staying at my in-laws’ house. During this, Raj called me and demanded Rs 30,000, threatening to tell my relatives about the hotel incident. I informed my family, who took me to police,” the woman said in her complaint.
