A 30-year-old man was shot dead by some unknown assailants in the Farrukhnagar area on Monday evening. An FIR was registered at the Farrukhnagar police station.

According to the police, the deceased, who was identified as Rohit, had come out of jail a few days ago. More than 10 cases had been registered against him. The police believe it to be a case of rivalry.

The incident took place in the fields behind World College around 4:15 pm on Monday, when unidentified assailants opened fire at Rohit and fled the spot. In the seriously injured condition, he was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

“Police officials have been deployed in the village to avoid any tensions. We are trying to identify the accused and they will be arrested soon,” said Inspector Sandeep Kumar, SHO of the Farrukhnagar police station.
