A 24-year-old woman was allegedly strangled to death by her husband in a rented room at Narsinghpur village in Gurugram city on Sunday.

The accused, identified as Gautam (31), a resident of Singa village, Khushinagar district, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested a day after the incident.

The police took the body into its custody.

The victim’s brother identified the body and told the police that her sister and other family members, along with him, came to Rajiv Nagar in Gurugram in 2022 where Gautam met her. She got pregnant with Gautam, who refused to marry her. After this, a criminal case of rape was registered against Gautam, but later Gautam married her and the case was disposed of by the court with mutual consent.

She gave birth to a baby girl. Thereafter, Gautam started harassing her. He often used to beat her, the brother told the police while claiming that Gautam had killed his sister.

During interrogation, it was found that Gautam worked as a watchman. He confessed to killing his wife.
