Massive fire destroys 40 labour accommodation, no casualties

A massive fire broke out in a two-storey temporary labour accommodation near a construction site in Sector 54, Gurugram, on Wednesday evening. While no casualties were reported as most labourers were at work, around 40 rooms, along with their belongings, were completely gutted in the fire.

More than 10 fire engines were deployed and firefighters took over an hour to bring the blaze under control.

According to a fire officer, the fire erupted at around 5:50 pm in the temporary structure near the Tulip builder’s project site. Upon receiving the alert, the Fire Department immediately dispatched four fire tenders from Sector 29 fire station.

“As the upper floors had plastic roofing, the fire spread rapidly,” said fire officer Rameshwar Dyal.

“Additional fire tenders from Udyog Vihar, Bhim Nagar and Sector 37 were rushed to the scene, and the flames were finally doused after more than an hour’s effort,” he added.

The official stated that a short circuit in a fan was identified as the cause of the fire. “No casualties were reported, but all the labour rooms were completely destroyed,” he added.
