He had been protesting alongside the family of a missing girl, Gudiya, at the Surewala Mor in Uklana when he suddenly felt pain in his chest.
Soni then left the protest site and sat in his car. He was immediately taken to a private hospital in Hisar, where doctors declared him dead. The news of his sudden demise shocked Congress workers, and soon, many workers gathered at the hospital.
Soni’s body will be placed at his residence in Sector 33 for people to pay their tributes to him. The incident occurred during a protest staged against the police’s alleged inaction in the case of Gudiya, a 16-year-old girl who has been missing since September 29. The girl’s family, accusing the Uklana police of not taking proper action, had been protesting for justice.
On Friday, the family planned to meet Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini in Chandigarh, but the police attempted to stop them in Uklana. In response, Soni and other Congress leaders travelled to Uklana to support the family.
