Rohtak MBBS exam scam: Three papers were 'leaked' in 2024 to facilitate racketeers

The MBBS examination scam at Pt BD Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak (UHSR), appears to be more deeply entrenched than initially suspected. Fresh revelations indicate that question papers were leaked on at least three occasions in 2024 to facilitate a meticulously organised answer-sheet racket, allegedly run by a nexus of insiders and students.

According to sources, this revelation was made during the interrogation of a key accused. The accused revealed that question papers for exams held on May 15, 17, and 19 were leaked by an invigilator, who clicked images of the papers and shared them with accomplices via mobile phone.

These images were further circulated on WhatsApp to MBBS students from other batches. These students, in turn, were assigned the task of rewriting the answer sheets for the original examinees. “On all three days, these students completed the answer sheets at the residence of the accused. Two of them wrote six answer sheets each, impersonating different candidates. Another student completed four, while a fourth wrote three,” an official said on condition of anonymity.

The forged answer sheets were then allegedly swapped with the originals in the university’s secrecy branch, with help from insiders.

Investigations further revealed that blank answer sheets were sourced by an assistant-level UHSR employee recruited through the Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam. The invigilator who leaked the papers reportedly charged Rs 30,000 per paper. The main accused charged Rs 3 lakh per subject from students, covering the entire process of writing and submitting the fake answer sheets.

“Surprisingly, no action has yet been taken against the invigilator, despite his name being mentioned during police interrogation. Additionally, several other officials have also been named by the accused, but they are yet to be questioned in connection with the scam,” said the source.

A senior UHSR official, also requesting anonymity, said: “As the case is under police investigation, any disciplinary action will depend on the findings. We will act strictly if arrests are made and concrete evidence is produced. Already, two regular employees and several outsourced staff members have been terminated in connection with this case.”

The exam scam, first exposed by The Tribune in January, has so far named 41 accused, including 24 MBBS students and 17 employees.
