Chandigarh: Transfers and postings of officers and officials engaged in conduct of byelections for ward No. 34 of Municipal Corporation, Gurugram, and ward No. 7 of the Municipal Corporation, Karnal, to be held on October 3 have been banned. An official spokesperson said if it was considered necessary to transfer any officer or official connected with the byelections, prior approval of the state Election Commission should be obtained. tns

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
