MC Poll: 12 of 22 wards reserved for SCs, BCs, women in Y’nagar, Jagadhri

In a series of election preparations, the Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri, has completed the work of reservation of wards falling under the jurisdiction of the civic body. Out of a total of 22 wards, 12 have been reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Backward Classes (BCs) and women.

Under supervision of Municipal Commissioner Ayush Sinha, the wards were reserved by the adhoc committee taking out draws. “For the MC elections, a draw was held on Saturday by the adhoc committee to reserve wards for the SCs, BC-A and B and women. The draw was held after reserving the wards on the basis of the higher population of the reserved classes,” said MC Commissioner Sinha.

As per information, the draw was conducted under the supervision of Sinha by Additional Municipal Commissioner Vijay Pal Yadav, adhoc committee members, former mayor Madan Chauhan, former senior deputy mayor Praveen Sharma, former deputy mayor Rani Kalra, former municipal councillors Savita Kamboj, Kusum Lata and Jagdish Vidyarthi.

Sinha said as per the instructions of the directorate of Urban Local Bodies, out of the total 22 wards of the MC, wards 1, 11, 12 and 21 were reserved for the SCs on the basis of their highest population.

“Out of the four wards reserved for the SCs, wards 11 and 21 were reserved for women belonging to the SC by drawing slips in these wards,” said Sinha.

He said to reserve wards for BC-A, a draw was conducted from wards 4, 14, 3, 10, 5, 17, 16, 22 and 6 on the basis of maximum population of BC-A, leaving aside the wards reserved for Scheduled Castes.

“Out of which, ward number 3, 17 and 4 were reserved for Backward Class-A. Out of these, a draw was conducted again to reserve a ward for Backward Class-A woman and ward number 4 was reserved for backward Class-A woman through draw,” said Ayush Sinha.

He added that to reserve the ward for Backward Class-B (BC-B) women, draw was taken out through slips from ward number 5, 10 and 16 on the basis of maximum population of the respective class.

He said Ward 10 was reserved for women belonging to BC-B through a draw. He added that to reserve the ward for women belonging to the general category, draw was taken out by putting slips of wards 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 19, 20 and 22. He said on the basis of draw, wards 22, 9, 15 and 14 were reserved for women of the general category.
