In line with National Education Policy-2020, Maharshi Dayanand University is set to implement formative assessment in UG and PG courses from the upcoming academic session with the aim to improve the learning process of students through continuous assessment.

This decision was taken in the meeting of the advisory committee of the Centre for Curriculum Design and Development of the university, held here on Wednesday.

Vice-Chancellor Rajbir Singh said the formative assessment system would be helpful in improving the quality of education in the university, and in increasing the overall ability of students.

The purpose of formative assessment was to improve the understanding and skills of students, he added.

“The Centre for Curriculum Design and Development will select method and tools for formative assessment, and the FDC will prepare teachers for it,” he added.

Centre for Curriculum Design and Development Director AK Rajan presented the agenda of the meeting.

Shedding light on the objectives and benefits of formative assessment, he said formative assessment was a continuous evaluation process, in which the performance of students was evaluated through assignments, presentations, quizzes, group discussions, seminars and other activities including field work.
