A suspicious electronic device discovered near Raipur Road in Hisar created a brief scare on Wednesday morning. Locals spotted a small parachute-like object and alerted the police, who swiftly cordoned off the area and summoned technical experts.

The device, found in bushes close to a sensitive zone near Hisar Airport and an Army cantonment, was initially treated with utmost caution. The white box, attached to a parachute and fitted with red and green lights, raised security concerns, particularly in view of recent similar incidents reported in Jammu and Kashmir.

Following a detailed examination, the Meteorological Department confirmed that the device was one of its instruments, a battery-powered balloon used to collect weather and pollution data. Once its battery depletes, the balloon descends safely to the ground.

Police officials said the device had been retrieved from fields near the airport in Mirzapur and was later confirmed to be completely harmless.
