Mini forest for Rohtak; 10,000 saplings being planted on Jind-Gohana road

Rohtak will have a mini forest on 3 acres of the HSVP land located on the Gohana-Jind road on the outskirts of the city. As many as 10,000 saplings of different species are being planted on the said chunk of land with the Japanese technique, ‘Miyawaki’.
In the Miyawaki method, saplings of different native species are planted close to one another and these grow rapidly under direct sunlight. The Forest Department has also installed barbed wires around the green belt to protect the plants.
Rohtak Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar stated that the trees were an
integral part of life and everyone should take responsibility to plant trees in open spaces and protect these for the betterment of environment.
He said, “Plantation plays an important role in controlling the adverse effects of global warming and degradation of environment and details of vacant chunks of land have been sought from various departments so that those can be utilised for plantation.”
“Apart from this, plantation will also be done on road-dividers, green belts and a plantation campaign will also be run in various villages through local panchayats,” said Kumar.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Vaishali Singh, who is also the Nodal Officer of the Haryana Uday Programme, observed that plantation was very important to maintain our connection with nature. She said, “The trees absorb the impurities of the environment and give us pure and fresh oxygen.”
“To maintain its continuity, we should plant as many trees as possible. After the plantation, it is also very important to protect these,” she stated.
The ADC appealed to the residents to plant saplings in their courtyards, streets and surroundings and take care to keep these alive.
She asserted that various activities were being organised by the district administration under the Haryana Uday programme.
“The Haryana Uday programme is an important programme aimed at strengthening community engagement and promoting better relations between the district administration, law enforcement agencies and the residents,” said Singh.
Divisional Forest Officer Sunder Sambharya said in the current season, five lakh saplings were prepared in the nursery of the Forest Department.
“This year, the department will plant 1.21 lakh plants and provide 2.25 lakh plants to school students, panchayats and various institutions under the Paudhagiri Scheme, Jal-Shakti Abhiyan and free supply campaign.
