Minister Krishan Bedi flags off Gita Run in Kurukshetra

Hundreds of people gathered at the Purushottam Pura Bagh of Brahma Sarovar in Kurukshetra early Thursday morning to participate in 'Gita Run' as part of the International Gita Mahotsav celebrations.

Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Krishan Bedi flagged off the run, jointly organised by the Kurukshetra Development Board and the Sports and Youth Affairs Department.

In the men's category, Ravi won the 10-km run and got Rs 31,000 cash award, Prince Kumar and Mohit secured the second and third spots, respectively, and got Rs 21,000 and Rs 11,000 cash awards.

In the women's category, Sonika won the 5-km run and got Rs 31,000 cash award, KM Jyoti and Monika secured the second and third spots and got Rs 21,000 and Rs 11,000 cash awards, respectively.

Besides the winners, Mohan, Vansh, Rakesh, Arif Ali, Vipin, Sorav and Gourav in the men’s category, while Anjali, Rekha, Kavita, Rimpi, Simran, Vijeta and Sneha in the women’s category were awarded Rs 2,100 each as consolation prizes.

People from all age groups participated in the run. During the event, Arjuna Award and Bheem Award winners Dr Dalel Singh, Manjeet Chahal, Sandeep and Rajender were also felicitated.

In his address, Bedi said, “I am fortunate to be a part of this event because with this run, the International Gita Mahotsav celebrations have started in Kurukshetra. The state government has been celebrating the event at a grand scale every year to spread the message of Gita. By adopting the teachings of Gita in life, every problem can be solved.”

“The sermon of Gita is relevant for the entire world. The government has also included the teachings of Gita in the school curriculum. The event will get bigger in the coming years and such events also give an opportunity to the younger generation to get connected with culture and values.”

Additional Deputy Commissioner Sonu Bhatt, Chief Executive Officer of KDB Pankaj Setia, KDB’s honorary secretary Upender Singhal, chairman of 48-kos Tirtha Monitoring Committee Madan Mohan Chhabra were among those present on the occasion.
