According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that Singh was cleaning his service revolver around 11 pm when a bullet was accidentally discharged, hitting him in the head. Hearing the gunshot, family members rushed to the spot and found him bleeding. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Singh had joined the Haryana Police as a constable in 2008 and was promoted to head constable in 2020–21. He had been part of Gurjar’s security detail for nearly 11 years, since Gurjar became a Member of Parliament in 2014. On Thursday, he had performed daytime duty before returning home, where the incident occurred. His wife and children were reportedly in another room at the time.
