Miscreant injured, nabbed after police encounter in Kurukshetra

The accused has been identified as Sukhvinder Singh, alias Sukhi, a resident of Kurukshetra, against whom around 18 cases — including attempt to murder, extortion and offences under the Prisons Act — were registered at various police stations.
In the encounter, Sukhvinder sustained a bullet injury in his leg and was taken to LNJP District Civil Hospital for treatment. According to the police, the accused had recently demanded extortion money from Angrej Singh, a former sarpanch of Kheri Markanda village. CIA-1 in-charge Surender Kumar said, “Following a tip-off regarding the presence of the criminal with a weapon, a search operation was launched. Sukhvinder opened two rounds of fire at the police party, which retaliated with three rounds. The accused was injured in the leg during the exchange.”
A country-made weapon and three live cartridges were recovered from his possession. The accused will be arrested formally once discharged from hospital. A case has been registered at Thanesar Sadar Police Station. Sukhvinder had been wanted in an attempt to murder case for nearly a year.
Meanwhile, Haryana DGP O P Singh praised the team’s efforts on social media, writing, “I congratulate my brave colleagues of Kurukshetra Police for apprehending this burden on society. More than 15 cases are registered against this dreaded criminal.”
