Most parts waterlogged as Hisar sees highest rainfall in state

Incessant rainfall occurring in Hisar and adjoining areas since last night brought the city to a standstill as many roads, public places, institutions and residential localities were heavily waterlogged on Thursday.

The IMD bulletin stated that Hisar had witnessed the highest rainfall of 75.1 mm since Wednesday while 52.2 mm rainfall was recorded till 8.30 on Thursday morning and another spell of 22.9 mm was recorded till 5.30 pm.

The entire stretch from Delhi Road to Mill Gate Road remained submerged while knee-deep water accumulated at the Hisar Civil Hospital complex. The stretch from Jindal Chowk to the Industrial Area and PLA Market to Camp Chowk are the worst hit due to the rain. Several localities including posh Green Park, Officers Colony, Lajpat Nagar, Jawahar Nagar, Urban Estate and Model town besides the areas of the HSVP witnessed heavy waterlogging of the roads and streets and water even entered houses in many area. The heavy flooding occurred in the areas at the Mill Gate as well. The residents across the city faced serious disruptions as two-wheelers stalled and mobility became a challenge.

A dilapidated building collapsed on Tehsil Road near Gandhi Chowk in the town. A breach also occurred in the Chaudhary Minor canal resulting in flooding of hundreds of acres of farmland.

Meanwhile, MC Commissioner Neeraj Kumar visited several waterlogged areas in the city. He directed the officials to expedite drainage operations across all affected areas. The sanitation branch has also been instructed to clean all blocked gully traps (GTs) throughout the city. The MC Commissioner stated that the STPs operated by the municipal corporation and Public Health Engineering Department would continue functioning non-stop until standing water was drained out.
