The owners of both the properties owe Rs 5,04,765 property tax to the MCYJ. The MCYJ had issued notices to these property tax defaulters several times for the recovery of pending dues.
Though the owners were called to the office of the MCYJ for a hearing, they failed to pay their property tax.
According to information, the MCYJ authorities have formed separate teams for the Yamunanagar and Jagadhri zones to take action against property tax defaulters.
These teams are working under the leadership of Regional Taxation Officers Ajay Walia and Jitender Malhotra in Yamunanagar zone and Regional Taxation Officer Sanjay Kumar and office superintendent Raghuveer Singh in Jagadhri zone to take action against property tax defaulters.
As per available information, the team of Sanjay Kumar and Raghuveer Singh sealed a steel factory in Durga Garden Colony of Jagadhri for non-payment of tax dues. The owner of the said factory owed Rs 2,79,381 tax dues to the MCYJ.
After sealing the steel factory, the MCYJ team sealed a furniture showroom located at Maharaja Agrasen Chowk in Jagadhri. The showroom owner had defaulted on payment of Rs 2,25,384 tax dues of the MCYJ.
After sealing both the properties, the MCYJ team pasted two separate notices issuing warning that legal action would be taken if seals were tampered with or if attempts were made to open the establishments without permission of the civic body.
Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Parsad said the MCYJ was continuously taking action against property tax defaulters.
“Properties of tax defaulters whose dues exceed Rs 1 lakh are now being sealed. Owners should pay their outstanding tax to avoid sealing of their establishments,” said Mahabir Parsad.
He said owners of properties, which were sealed, had already been warned through notices several times.
“Property tax defaulters were called to the MCYJ office for a hearing, but they failed to pay their tax. Therefore, their properties were sealed. The action against tax defaulters will continue in the future too,” the Municipal Commissioner said.
