Under the 136-km-long corridor, five metro stations will be established in Karnal. Besides, infrastructure for parking and other essential facilities is also being planned at each station, he added.
The meeting focused on discussions regarding the acquisition of land required for the project. The DC emphasised that every crucial aspect related to public transportation convenience will be carefully considered to ensure that the facility remains affordable and of high quality for the general public.
Singh further said some of the land to be acquired for the project fell under various state government departments and Central institutions. Relevant information is being shared with the central ministries concerned to facilitate the acquisition process. He directed the officials of the departments present at the meeting to send necessary correspondence to their respective headquarters, seeking approval and sharing details related to the project so that the land acquisition work can begin at the earliest.
The DC said that this project would enhance connectivity between Delhi and Karnal while significantly reducing travel time.
It is a much-awaited extension project now known as the Sarai Kale Khan-Panipat-Karal Namo Bharat Corridor. A team of the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) team had recently visited Karnal to explore land options for the project.
The extension of the corridor to Karnal was approved after the intervention by former Haryana CM and now Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, following the district’s inclusion in the National Capital Region (NCR) on June 9, 2015. Initially, the project was planned only up to Panipat. The extension increases the corridor’s length from 103 km (Delhi–Panipat) to approximately 136 km, including Karnal.
