As Gurugram is facing its worst monsoon with massive waterlogging, potholed roads and traffic congestion, former minister and BJP candidate from Badshahpur Rao Narbir has blamed the last five years for the mess.

In an exclusive conversation with The Tribune, Narbir said that there was no denying that government had failed the millennium city in the past five years but he blamed coalition for it. “I agree Gurugram is a civic mess currently. We have the worst waterlogging, worst roads and traffic crises. The last five years not just brought the city to a standstill but in fact, even reversed the pace of development. I blame coalition for it. We had a majority government from 2014 to 2019 and anybody can vouch for the pace of development but things went downhill since 2019. It was our coalition with JJP which is to be blamed. They were handling civic infrastructure and the city turned into a mess,” said Narbir.

On being questioned about former CM Manohar lal Khattar’s promise to convert Gurugram into Singapore, Narbir said, “Only he can elaborate on the promise. I don’t say that we will make city Singapore but will make it liveable cosmopolitan. The city should have proper drainage and civic management. I have been vocal about lapses and giving a guarantee of solution. Once elected, Narbir will return the sheen of the city,” he said.

Narbir is second party leader after MP Rao Inderjit Singh who has openly spoken about the failure of ML Khattar and later Nayab Saini-led state governments to give Gurugram and Ahirwal its due.

“Ahirwal has supported the BJP the most since 2014 and like any other Ahir leader, I also feel we haven’t got our due, specifically Gurugram. The city roughly accounts for 70 per cent of the state exchequer and getting this in return is not acceptable. I have told the voters to trust me and I will get us what we deserve,” added Narbir.
